Turn that TV off, save the dishes and laundry for later: It’s Family Fun Night! Our family started having Family Fun Night a few months ago. We play games, sing songs, dance around the living room, play soccer in the backyard or make something crafty together. It doesn’t matter what it is, it’s spending the time with the kids and them with us. We believe that being an active part of their lives shapes who they are and what they’ll be later in life.

Family Photo Session with 2 boys at Great Brook Farm

We have two extremely active boys ages 4 and 2 years. They are the joy of my life, but to be honest: they exhaust me. All day is spent shuttling them around, chasing them through the house (and admittedly through the grocery store). From the time I wake up, my day is consumed with all the things that pertain to them and the general upkeep of our home. Some nights, after dinner: I go to bed before they do and leave the bathing and bedtime to daddy. However, there is one night a week I look more to than anything. No, it’s not a Mom’s Night Out (that is not a bad idea though): it’s Family Fun Night (FFN). We always, yes always, have pizza for dinner on FFN. After we eat, we do what the kids want to do. They love it. They have our undivided attention: no TV, no computer, nothing to distract mommy and daddy from these precious little people.

Spend more time with your family with a Family Photo Session

One night, we all dressed up in costumes and once we baked cookies for all the neighbors. Robert’s favorite Family Fun Night was the time we built a fort and pretended to go camping. We even made s’mores for dessert. Andrew’s favorite was painting a canvas on the kitchen floor (He used his feet, by the way.) My favorite night is a game night where I school my husband in Candy Land or Connect Four. I try to let the kids win sometimes too. My husband likes to go outside and play soccer, frisbee or hide and seek. It really does not matter what we are doing. The only thing that matters is that we are together being a family. When the weather is nice, we wrap Family Fun Nights by taking a walk around the block. Andrew rides in the wagon pulled by daddy and Robert rides his bike. We stop along the way to say hi to the neighbors, look at the flowers in the yards or to examine a peculiar rock or bug. After the night of fun, baths and more bedtime stories than we can even keep count of, we all have big smiles on our faces. After those little bodies are resting peacefully in their beds, my husband and I clean up the mess (and there almost always is one) and crash on the couch with a bowl of popcorn or chocolate ice cream. We pop in a movie or catch up on some tivo and usually end up laughing and talking about the kids and the night.

Go outside and have more FUN with your family

The key to keeping FFN going is scheduling it and putting it on the calendar. I think we need that scheduled time because, to be honest: if we didn’t schedule it, it wouldn’t happen. We get so busy in the day-to-day stuff, schedules, and life that we lose sight of what is really important. I know our kids will remember when they are older that we took the time to spend with them and we are not too busy for our children. They know we are here for them, we want to spend time with them and they are important to us. I hope when they are 14 and 16 that they will still want to hang out with us and will feel comfortable talking to us about anything. We are confident that a tight-knit family can make the difference in a life of a child. I hope you and your family will make the time to do something together each week! It has made a huge difference for our family and I know it can for yours too!

Family Photo Session at Menotomy Rocks Park Arlington

Arlington Family Photography

Arlington Family Photographer • Family photos at Menotomy Rocks Park

For many years I have pursued my passion as a family photographer. In my time, I have learned that the bond shared between family members is one of the most sacred forms of love on the planet. Unconditional, unwavering and true, there is nothing more precious than what I get to take part of for a living. For a while now I have solidified my reputation as a family photographer Arlington families turn to when they want to see that beautiful love memorialized forever on digital film.

I believe that children are the keystone to any family. They introduce innocence, joy and laughter to the family dynamic and always keep things interesting. It is for this reason that I enjoy including photos of children playing with their toys, running gleefully through the fields and just generally being who they are. I love to capture the curious expressions they often hold, as children are by far the most free and animated of the subjects I photograph.

Not only do I like seeing the children play independently, I enjoy getting on film the family playing with their children as well. Sparking curiosity and creativity in a child is so important, and showing off the parent’s playful nature around the child is just as serious to me. Along with playing, capturing the day-to-day, casual interaction between parent and child stands out to me as a priority as well, seeing as this is often the sort of interactions you will see naturally in the home. It is important to have photographs to remember private moments like this, as well.

When I can, I like to showcase each generation of the family who is able to be present. This helps to bring to life the importance of our ancestry and heritage; something the child can look back upon when they are older and remember where it is that they come from. Along with generational shots featuring the whole family, I like to stop and smell the proverbial roses and include solo shots of family members, too. Grabbing photos of individual members of the family holding the child is great as well because different parts of children’s personalities often show themselves with different family members and I like to capture the broad spectrum of the child’s mind and emotions.

The locations I choose for my photography shoots include a lot of outdoor locations such as a grassy pasture or a beautiful body of water. I think these provide the best backdrops and offer gorgeous natural lighting that simply cannot be duplicated by any other means.

One Year Old Photoshoot in Burlington MA | Burlington Family Photography

Burlington Family Photography

Burlington Family Photographer • Family Photographer based in Burlington

It is my strongest belief that the family is one of the most important bonds in a child’s life. From the moment they are born until the end, family is there for them to help them grow, learn and change into the loving adults they will someday be. Therefore, I want to showcase the love between members of the family by capturing photos of them in their natural habitat, so to speak. I am a family photographer based in Burlington, my passion is to create valuable photographs that bring to life the love of the family.

I enjoy starting out my shoot from inside of the family home. Be it the child’s play room, the family’s shared living space such as a den or living room or even a casual space such a staircase, it is important. The reason for this is because much of the family’s lives will center around this location, so creating lifelong memories and photographing them is an important tool in sparking precious memories upon viewing the photos as the child ages. Not only this, I have come to learn that children are most comfortable in their own environment, leaving them free to be themselves before the camera. This includes playing, laughing, eating–all things that are done on a day-to-day basis.

On top of the family home, I choose other simple but beautiful locations like the family’s backyard for a backdrop, too. I like these locations because they are casual yet gorgeous and, again, give the child freedom to feel comfortable and play before the camera. Aside from solo shots, I like to get photos of the family enjoying some fun in the sun together as well.

After many candid shots of both the child alone and the family together, I enjoy posing some photographs for them as well to be used as photos to send to the other family members who maybe don’t get a chance to see the family often. My passion is providing cherished memories for everyone’s lives that the family in question has touched.
