Fall is the busiest six weeks of the year for family photography around Boston, and weekend slots in October go first. If you want colour behind you, the window is roughly the last week of September to the first week of November.
Peak foliage in this part of Massachusetts usually lands mid-to-late October. Book before then and we can pick your date rather than take what’s left.
Christmas cards: the date that actually matters
If the photos are going on a card, work backwards from when you want to post them.
Your full edited gallery arrives within seven days of the session. Most card printers want five to ten days, and you’ll want a few days to choose, write and address them. That puts the last comfortable shooting date at mid-November — and if you’d like autumn colour in the frame rather than bare branches, earlier still.
In practice: book by early November at the latest. Late November sessions still work beautifully — they just look like winter rather than fall, which some families prefer anyway.
What a session is like
No studio, no props, no posing you into shapes that feel nothing like you. We meet at a park near you an hour or so before sunset, we walk, we talk, and I photograph what actually happens.
Children run. Nobody has to sit still or say cheese. Most people feel a bit awkward for ten minutes and then forget I’m there — that’s the part I’m good at, and it’s why the photos look like your family rather than a catalogue.
Sessions can also happen at your own home. A front step in October, leaves in the yard, the kitchen on a Sunday morning — some of my favourite autumn sessions never leave the house.
Where we shoot
Local parks and conservation land across Burlington, Winchester, Lexington, Arlington, Bedford, Woburn, Reading and Wilmington. Flat paths, easy parking, and open meadows that hold the light late in the day.
If you have somewhere that means something to your family — the field behind your house, the pond you walk every Sunday — that’s usually better than anywhere I’d pick.

Common questions
When should we book for fall photos?
Get in touch in August or September. October weekends fill first, and peak colour is usually mid-to-late October. If you’re reading this in October, still ask — there are often weekday evenings left.
Will we get the photos in time for Christmas cards?
Yes, if we shoot by mid-November. Your gallery arrives within seven days, which leaves time for printing and posting. Book by early November to be comfortable.
What should we wear?
Colours that sit alongside autumn rather than compete with it — cream, rust, olive, denim, deep green. Solids over busy patterns, and layers, because late afternoon in October gets cold faster than you expect. Comfortable shoes for everyone.
What if it rains?
We move it, at no cost. Overcast is genuinely good light, so we’ll usually shoot anyway — but actual rain gets rescheduled to the next date that works for you.
How many photos do we get?
Every edited image from the session, with no cap and nothing held back for a sales meeting. A 30-minute session usually produces somewhere between 20 and 30 images.
Can grandparents and extended family join?
Yes, and at no extra cost. Autumn is when extended families tend to be in one place, and a 60 or 90-minute session gives room for the combinations everyone wants.
